They specializes in working with couples, families, and adults across a variety of contexts. Helping others to improve their relationships with others is at the heart of her therapeutic practice. They became a therapist to help others understand themselves, disrupt problematic relational patterns, and improve their overall well-being.

Dr. Shelly is a huge animal lover and has a corgi, mini schnauzer, and a cat. Her free time is spent playing videogames, exploring nature, and trying new restaurants. They are passionate about the LGBTQIA+ community and training other therapists to work competently with members of the community.

Approach & Values

Dr. Shelly specializes in working with couples and families experiencing a variety of concerns, including infidelity, communication problems, family conflict, and chronic illnesses. They work with teens, young adults, couples, and families. Dr. Shelly has worked extensively with the LGBTQIA+ community and specializes in gender dysphoria. Dr. Shelly assists transgender, nonbinary, and gender questioning individuals with exploring their gender-identity and setting goals for social and medical transition. Her research area within her PhD has focused on the experience of discrimination, internalized transphobia, and gender dysphoria.

They believe in tailoring her approach to each unique case, as they believe each client brings something different to therapy. Dr. Shelly draws upon Feminist, Systems, and Emotionally-Focused perspectives to guide the therapeutic process. Within her approach is a focus on social influences, relational patterns, and a focus on emotional exploration as it relates to what the client brings into therapy. They believe in setting collaborative goals with the client to ensure the client is heard and working towards the goals they want for their life. They focus on the strengths that each client brings to therapy to build upon those strengths.

Dr. Shelly values collaboration and diversity of experiences within therapy. As such, they strive to equalize power within the therapeutic relationship and explore how diverse experiences shape the process of therapy.
